Fortune Orange is a 6 person group influenced by 90's hip-hop, funk music and classic rhythm & blues.
Our Story
Fortune Orange was formed over the course of 3 years in Columbus, Ohio. The group was born at Ohio State's Freestyle Rap Club where vocalists Sam Miller and Ryan Hauldren initially met and bonded over their mutual love for Hip-Hop music. Immediately they began creating music of their own, finding the affinity of their styles led to a quick chemistry. A year later, at a house party, Jacob Kohoot was visiting from Athens, Ohio. Upon seeing an acoustic guitar hanging in a bedroom, his instinct took over as he began strumming the guitar that, as destiny would have it, belonged to his future bandmate. Sam heard the familiar tune of his guitar and began to rap effortlessly over Jacobs acoustic melody, both of them unaware of what was slowly beginning to materialize. They exchanged numbers and Jacob sent over some beats for Sam and Ryan. The trio was happy to have met, but unfortunately distance prevented any collaboration. That is until the following year when Jacob decided to move to Columbus and finish school at Ohio State; three pieces of the puzzle were officially set in place. Through mutual friends, Jacob met bassist/guitarist Drew Basile, whose dexterous fingers found a home among the smooth, funky sound Sam, Ryan, and Jacob had developed. Thus the fourth piece of the puzzle was introduced, leaving only a few more positions open. One of the vacancies was quickly inhabited by keyboardist, Pat Jennings, whose inclusion in the gang's basement jam sessions seemed almost like kismet. In February 2016, the five friends met in the studio and wrote their first song, 'Resonate'. After that first remarkable session the band was officially formed and dubbed...Fortune Orange. Later on the guys met their drummer, Terron Howell, and he vibed so well that became the sixth and final member of the band.
